Practitioner Biography

Dwight Chien is a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) in both Delaware and New Jersey, and also a Diplomat of Acupuncture (D.Ac.) certified by NCCAOM (The National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine).

Dwight Chien graduated from ESATM (Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine) located in New Jersey. After completing the 3-year acupuncture training at ESATM, Dwight stayed in the school and completed the training on Oriental Medicine. He then studied acupuncture and herbal medicine further in China for six months. His qualification in acupuncture and herbal medicine is verified by NCCAOM. He has now established Tong Jin Acupuncture in Wilmington, Delaware, to treat people with various conditions.

Before becoming an acupuncturist, Dwight earned his M.S. degree in chemistry from Louisiana State University in Monroe, LA, and Ph.D. degree in chemistry from The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. Subsequently, he had worked in several chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Since his boyhood, Dwight has always been fascinated by Chinese medicine while observing the practice of Chinese herbal doctors. That leads him to eventually change his career to become an acupuncturist so that he can more directly help people. Behind Dwight’s picture are two postings in Chinese. The one on his right means “Good wishes in the world”. The one on his left means “Realizing freedom in the mind”. They guide him in the treatment of patients. His focus is always on relieving the pain and suffering of the patients. He charges nominal fee so that patients without insurance coverage can afford the treatment. He spends time on building rapport and understanding the issues of his patient. Dwight usually treats only one patient at a time so the patient can have his undivided attention. He applies his scientific background to identify the root cause of the patient's issues, and uses the various techniques from his extensive training to come up with an effective treatment specifically designed for the patient.

Dwight has in his repertoire, Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, Tung Acupuncture, Japanese Acupuncture, and Five-Element Acupuncture techniques. He can also apply Scalp Acupuncture, Abdominal Acupuncture, Auricular Acupuncture, Electro-stimulation, Gua Sha, Cupping, Tui Nar, as needed, to treat people with various health conditions including pain, allergy, depression, infertility, insomnia, stroke, skin diseases, gynecological issues, urinary issues and more.
